What is SPP?

SPP stands for Students Partners Program,also known as SPP. This is program is developed by Association of Canadian Community Colleges (ACCC) and the Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) in partnership. This arrangement between slected Canadian educational institutions and Canadian high Commission in India to provide fast and easy study visa for the student to study in participating colleges in Canada. The whole purpose to starting SPP was to make the admission and visa process more efficient and increase the number of Canada study visa issue to Indian students. 

Students Partners Program(SPP) was initially started for the Indian students only, but it is now available for Chinese students also. There are 47 Canadian educational institutes under SPP that welcomes Indian students. Students must need to meet entry requirement of the participating college to get the visa.

Eligibility Criteria to apply for Canada study visa under SPP.

Students does not need to apply for SPP separately. You just have to apply to a participating institute and if your application meets the criteria you may be considered under the SPP program. It is advisable that students submit their application at least three months before the commencement of the course. Apart from academic requirement you need to pass a medical eam and should be able to demonstrate their intention to return home after the completion of studies.   

SPP requirement is given below

  • IELTS Score of 6 with no bands less than 5.5 for Under Graduates and Overall 6.5 with no bands less than 6 for Post graduate programs.

  • Study gap no more than 2 years.

  • Overall minimum score of 50% in  their recent completed diploma or degree.

  • Proof of tuition fee payment for one semester or one year

  • Purchase of GIC in the amount of 10,000 CAD to cover living expemses for first year.

  • Medical examination report.

  • Letter of Acceptance from College.

  • Passport

Work Eligibility Under SPP.

As per current work visa regulations, students who have course duration of 2 years are eligible to get a post study work visa for 2-3 years. Those students whoe course duration is one year or less are eligible for work permit equal to the duration of their course. Apart from this if you meets specific criteria students can work on campus or off campus up to 20 hrs per week during  regular academic sessions and work full time during scheduled breaks such as the winter and summer holidays of spring breaks.
